Workshop on Writing Proposals for ELTA-ELSE Faculty Development Projects

Workshop on Writing Proposals for ELTA-ELSE Faculty Development Projects

The ELTA-ELSE Team organized a workshop for the teams of writers who expressed interest in submitting proposals for the ELTA-ELSE Faculty Development Projects. This workshop was held at the Postgraduate Institute of Management on 11th June 2018 from 9 am to 5 pm.

116 academics from 14 universities participated in the workshop.  They represented faculties such as Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management & Finance, Science, Agriculture, and Livestock, Fisheries & Nutrition.

The aim of the workshop was to support the proposal writers by providing them with interactive sessions on the areas that they were asked to focus on in the ELTA-ELSE proposal. Some of the areas that were discussed at the workshop were the development of soft skills, the importance of learner-centered teaching, developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and aligning curricula with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF).  There were also sessions that focused on the importance of designing English as a Second Language (ESL) courses that cater to the specific needs of a faculty and the views of the employers on recruiting graduate employees. The resource personnel were key figures from academia, the World Bank, and the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon.

These interactive sessions were followed by a Q&A session where the ELTA-ELSE Team fielded questions on the specifics of the ELTA-ELSE proposal such as the guidelines for proposal writing, designing of activities and deadlines.

The deadline for submission of Faculty-level ELTA-ELSE proposals is midnight, 11 July 2018.
